to kill a mockingbird--by Dylan Snyder

A young girl named Scout Finch lives in the quite town of Maycomb. She lives with her brother, Jem, and her father, Atticus. this story takes place in the 1930's during the great depression. Atticus happens to be a lawyer, so their family is in okay shape. Scout and Jem one day befriend a boy named Dill. He moves to Matcomb in the summer to live with his Aunt. The three become best friends. One day Dill becomes intrested with a spooky house down the street. The person who lives in the house is Nathan Radley. He has a brother with the nickname "Boo". Boo has lived in that house for a while without going outside of it. The three thought that was mysterious. They have heard many stories of Boo and wanted to find out if some were true. They heard boo was in jail for a while. soon, boos dad died, so they took him out of jail, and his brother nathan came to live with him.

The next summer, they discover that somebody is leaving gifts in a knothole from time to time. They thought that the gift leaver could be Boo. They think that he saw them pass by the house with looks of intrest and wonder. He left things there to let them know that he is still around. The three thought it was a possibility that Boo was just misunderstood and wasn't actually scary.

Soon a case comes around that a black man, Tom Robison, has raped a white girl. Atticus is a lawyer and is defending Tom. Maycomb is a very prejudcice white town. So most people are mad at, or have lost all respect for him, for defending a black person. Even his kids get bugged for it at school. Atticus runs into many conflicts while defending Tom. He also put his familt in danger. Atticus sat infront of Tom's jail cell to protect him so people cannot hurt or kill him. while he is doing that, he is leaving his family alone putting them in more danger.

The trial finnally came. The case goes on for a while, arguing back and forth. In the end, Atticus clearly wins. But the prejudice judge over looks that and sends Tom to jail. Atticus didn't want the kids to be there. But, the kids snuck in and watched it in the black people section. So, Tom gets sent to another prison. He later tries to escape and gets shot and killed. Atticus soon recieved the news that this happened. He felt really terrible about this. he passed the news on to Tom's family. they also fely bad. People later that day and days after still were mean to him and gave him dirty looks. Bob Ewell goes after Jem and Scout. He follows them home from school with a knife. He attacks Jem and the result was knockedout unconcious, and a broken arm. before he could get to Scout, a mysterious man stopped him. the stranger tackled him and Bob fell on his knife and died. the man brought Jem back to the house. Scout went back to see who it was, it turned out to be Boo. Boo was actually a very good person, he was just misunderstood.

REACTION TO THE BOOK

there were many examples of evil over good, and good over evil. A good example of evil over good was when everyone knew that Tom was innocent, they still sentenced him because he was black. An example of good over evil, was when Boo saved Scout and Jem at the end of the book. Both of those people were very misunder stood. Tom didn't do anything wrong. He was very mis-judged. Just because his skin is a different color he should be falsey sentenced? that doesn't make any sense. Boo, also was a very good person. and was also very mis-judged. Just because he never comes outside means he is a big mean monster? He saved both of the kid's lives at the end.

The whole thing about the trial was unfair. Just because he is black he got charged. if he was white he wouldn't of been charged. The book has taught me alot about Americas rascit past. people aren't different because of there skin color. Skin is only skin deep, it doesn't even matter.

But, i stil don't understand why that person was leaving things in the tree. how did he know they would look there? and who was it that was doing that? they thought it was Boo, but it never said who it was. And why did he patch the hole?

Overall, i thik that the book was a pretty good book. It was pretty intresting. during the court-scene, i didnt want to put it down. i wanted to know what was going to happen next, how it was going to end up. And the ending of the court-scene was good. Some parts were a little wierd. like the gifts in the tree part. And the Ending how Boo just went in the house. And how Atticus would leave his kids alone every night to go sit by the jail door. And how Jem and Scout called their dad Atticus instead of Dad.
